Tuesday, April 8, 2014: 5:00 PM-6:00 PM
Room 217/218 ( Ernest N. Morial Convention Center)
Lead Speaker:
Andrea McCloskey
Co-speakers:
Gwen Lloyd and Courtney Lynch

Description of Presentation:

In order to understand the cultural nature of teaching mathematics, we studied an intern teaching a 5th grade class about fraction operations. We used the lens of ritual to analyze the classroom observations and interviews collected over the 3-week unit. Here we share findings that contribute to a cultural portrait of teaching mathematics.
