Description of Presentation:
Using data from a longitudinal study of beginning middle school mathematics teachers, I examine how teacher actions to establish rapport with students shape the experience of doing and learning mathematics. The findings underscore how seemingly non-mathematical actions shape the contours of mathematics instruction and new teacher development.
