The term model is frequently misinterpreted as hands-on, but manipulatives in isolation do not satisfy the expectation of Standard for Mathematical Practice #4: "Model with mathematics." This session will engage participants in problem-based tasks that showcase the importance of mathematical modeling in the primary grades.
