The very first Standard for Mathematical Practice, "make sense of problems", includes many ideas that have long been foci of literacy instruction. Yet when “math” starts, both teachers and students often leave those good habits behind. We’ll explore building a sense-making culture in the classroom and how to translate literacy routines into good math practices.
