How do we help children develop deep understanding of addition and subtraction concepts and their related number facts? These mathematical ideas require chldren to move away gradually from the concrete objects in the real world to more abstract representation. Language is the bridge for this support, using stories, pictorial representation, and guides to the sequence of development for number facts.
