Rigor involves thinking, reasoning, and depth of knowledge. The Standards for Mathematical Practice strongly promote these; in other words, they promote rigor. Consequently, teachers must consciously develop rigor by attending to the practices. How can mathematics teachers at the middle grade levels facilitate rigor in their classrooms?
