Research states using high cognitive demand tasks can improve student engagement (Smith and Stein 2011). We will share the collaborative work done by a university researcher with elementary and middle school teachers, coaches, and administrators to improve the implementation of tasks in grades 3â8 with the intention of engaging all students, especially those who struggle, in mathematics.
