The Common Core calls for all students to construct arguments yet gives few details about what constitutes an argument. Research has developed ways of describing and classifying arguments in early grades (e.g., Krummheuer 2007; Yackel 2002). We can make connections to practice by considering how research helps us “see” arguments in classrooms.
