One goal is to alert teachers to the fact that early identification and intervention in the area of number sense is important for the prevention of future mathematics difficulties. Another goal is to give teachers a working definition of number sense, show them that number sense can be taught, and to provide them with an easy to use tool that will enable them to assess students’ progress in these important skills and design appropriate interventions.
