In this session, I will highlight and summarize research focused on relationships between students’ perceptions of their mathematical ability and their mathematical performance. I will discuss implications of these research findings, and I will suggest ways teachers can better promote productive mathematics dispositions in students through a deeper understanding of students’ perceptions of their mathematical ability.
