Procedural fluency—carrying out arithmetic and algebraic procedures flexibly, accurately, efficiently, and appropriately—is a key component of mathematical proficiency. Despite our best efforts, many students fail to develop such fluency. Learn tasks and strategies that help students build fluency as well as common pitfalls to avoid.
